Classic Mahogany Silverware Chest with Brown Lining Review

This is a very well made, handsome silver chest. It arrives double boxed and wrapped in plastic- a good thing because it was left on our stoop in a howling rain storm. But the chest was dry and in perfect condition even after all night in the rain! (Hint to seller...do NOT scrimp on the packaging...it served you well...). The deep rich mahogany is just beautiful. The chest is well fitted and the hinge opens smoothly and the top stays open. That is a big deal as the cheaper ones have lids that fall down and guillotine your fingers right before a dinner party. It comes with a brass plate on the top, which you cannot see in the picture. Two very tiny screws hold it on. I removed it and took it too a local jeweler and had the surname engraved on it. The chest comes with instructions to send $ 12.50 and what you want engraved and they will send you a new brass plate in 3 weeks. I couldn't wait that long so used a local jeweler which was more expensive, but I got a lot more choices of type and size than they give you on the order form. This chest is a little more expensive, but I think it is well worth it. After all, what you are putting in it is elegant and special, so a few dollars more for the chest to get a really elegant one is a good deal. I'm glad I spent a little more and got this really nice chest.
